Life is always Charting Pathways but not always in the way we hope or expect.

We tend to engage in functional ways and feel content with life when things are going well but engage in dysfunctional ways when experiencing unexpected challenges.

No one lives a life in the absence of suffering; it’s a normal part of life.

We can’t control certain elements of it, but we do have control over how we address, engage with, and continue to move forward given these difficulties.

How we manage to get through the hard times greatly impacts our quality of life. You may be seeking counselling for a moment in life when the challenges are too difficult to bear alone, for ongoing self-care & support, or any other reason. Wherever you’re at, we’ll meet you there.

How We Match You With the Right Therapist

Finding the right therapist is one of the most important parts of the process. At Charting Pathways, we make that step as straightforward as possible.

Our team includes Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC) and Registered Professional Counsellors (RPC), each with their own areas of focus, therapeutic style, and lived experience. You can read about each therapist before you book so you can make an informed choice rather than a blind one.

Not sure who to pick? Reach out and we will help point you in the right direction based on what you are looking for.

Our Therapists and Their Approaches

Our team draws on a range of evidence-based methods so that sessions are shaped around what works for you, not a fixed formula. Approaches include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Mindfulness-based approaches
  • Somatic therapy
  • Narrative and solution-focused therapy

Sessions are typically 50 minutes and happen at a frequency that fits your life — weekly, biweekly, or otherwise. There is no set timeline and no pressure to commit to a fixed number of sessions upfront.

In-Person and Online Sessions

Charting Pathways offers individual therapy at two in-person locations:

Online therapy is also available across British Columbia for clients who prefer to connect from home or whose schedule makes in-person sessions difficult. Both formats are equally effective, and many clients switch between the two depending on the week.

Fees, Funding, and Coverage

We believe cost should not be a barrier to getting support. Charting Pathways offers:

  • Low-cost counselling options for clients who qualify
  • ICBC-funded counselling for those affected by a motor vehicle accident
  • Sessions that may be covered through extended health benefits — many plans cover RCC sessions

Frequently Asked Questions

Therapeutic fit matters as much as credentials. Our team page gives you a chance to read about each person's background, style, and areas of focus before you commit to a session. If you are still unsure, contact us and we will help match you with someone suited to what you are looking for.

Therapeutic fit and timing both matter. If a previous experience was not helpful, it does not mean therapy is not right for you. It may simply mean a different approach or a different therapist would be a better match. We are happy to talk through what has and has not worked before so we can set things up differently this time.

People come to individual therapy for a wide range of concerns. Some of the most common include anxiety and panic, depression, grief and loss, trauma, burnout, low self-esteem, life transitions, and difficulties in relationships. That said, you do not need a diagnosis or a specific condition to benefit from therapy. Many clients come simply because something feels off and they want support figuring out why.

This varies from person to person and depends on what you are working through. Some people notice a shift within a few sessions. Others find that deeper or longer-standing concerns benefit from more sustained work over several months. Your therapist will check in with you regularly about how things are feeling and adjust the pace accordingly. There is no pressure to stay longer than is useful.

No referral is needed. You can book directly through our online booking system at either our Downtown Vancouver or New Westminster location. If you are unsure which therapist to choose, you are welcome to contact us first and we will help you find the right fit.
